Ms. Serpa is a fairly recent activist becoming politically involved only in the past eight years. Her family had always been politically minded (both Democrats and Republicans) and this was the cause of many fierce arguments. So she had resolved early on to stay out the cross-fire of politics and devote her energies to environmental and public education issues. She
was a public librarian advocate and librarian of an elementary school
in small city north of Boston while her children were growing up. When they left for college she
founded D.O.M.E (Defenders of Mother Earth) and was heavily involved
with other environmental groups such as Sustainable Worcester
(Treasurer), StepItUp and R.E.C. (Regional Environmental Council). Additionally,
she has been a genealogist for the past 30 years with a passion
history, especially the American Revolution and colonial days.
Gradually, she
became an anti-war activist as she became more informed through her
fellow environmentalists because of the devastating effects of war on
the environment.
Then the George W. Bush Administration descended upon us. Prior to his first presidential campaign, she had learned to be leery of the self-proclaimed neo-cons, but still did not recognize how insidious they could be. Ms.
Serpa was not enthusiastic about either Gore nor Bush or the whole
presidential race altogether that year – Susan didn’t’ even recognize much difference between the candidates. But within ten days of Bush taking office, she realized she could no longer stay out of the fray of politics. She saw our country rolling back decades, maybe centuries, all the progress we had made as a leader of free and responsible societies.
Ms. Serpa took
this unraveling of our Constitution personally. Susan’s maiden name is
Paine, of the same family as Citizen Thomas Paine, whose publication Common Sense launched the American Revolution. Ms.
Serpa qualifies threefold as a D.A.R. , a direct descendant of Col.
Jonathan Chase and Capt. Samuel Paine of the Vermont Regiment and also
descended from Capt. Samuel Whittemore of Menotomy (now known as Arlington), Massachusetts who survived “mortal” wounds at age 80 defending his town from the Red Coats.
Susan Serpa
became involved with the GOP following the 2004 Republican Presidential
debates after talking with the multitude of attendees who opposed the
policies of the Bush Administration. As
they spoke she heard with pride values she believes strongly: fierce
defense of Constitution and The Bill of Rights, fiscal responsibility,
conservatuionism, small government,
family values, Christian value of peace, rugged individualism for
responsible independence and non-intervention in strictly foreign
affairs (no nation building). She became a supporter of Ron Paul and vowed to work toward restoring the values of the Party the neo-cons had stolen. To these ends we must bring back those who have left the party
because of the
neo-con leadership, particularly we must invite back the former
Republican leaders who, mistakenly in her mind, have become Independent. Independents have practically no political impact. Whereas, those who defend the values of our Founding Fathers from within the GOP, have a chance a making a big difference.
Eventually,
Ms. Serpa became so involved with combating the Bush Administration
Policies it encompassed very close to 100% of her non-professional life. Her current involvement includes
facilitator and treasurer of Northeast Impeachment Coalition, Director
of Republicans for Impeachment, Coordinator of NAN, National
Accountability Network (f.k.a. NIN, National Impeachment Network), ACLU Task Force Massachusetts, on the staff of Jobs For Afghans, promoter of Vincent Bugliosi’s ProsecuteGeorgeBush.com for the murder of our Troops and Dean
Lawrence Velvel’s Justice Robert H. Jackson Steering Committee to file complaint with the Justice Department against 31 persons (including Bush and Cheney) for war crimes. These activities involved
several trips to Washington, DC lobbying congress and the production of
Television ads for NIN, Vincent Bugliosi, Charlotte Dennett (candidate
for AG-VT, selecting and recruiting the campaign manager), Sponsorship and Rally for HR24-NH (State Resolution to impeach Bush and Cheney), Promoter of WalkInHerName.org (Vermont Professor, John Nirenberg’s 400+ mile walk to hand-deliver petitions of impeachment to Congress), initiating the monthly national Banner Drops for impeachment.
It is her
fervent hope that many of you will join us in our endeavors to restore
the GOP and this nation to values and policies we can be proud to
represent as the beacon of democracy our
Founding father envisioned.
